High-resolution footage of meteors over Central Europe and the southern sky in Chile

The CEMeNt network (Central European Meteor Network), founded in 2010 by amateur astronomers from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, has extended its operations to the Southern Hemisphere after more than a decade of meteor research. Thanks to upgrades of camera systems to sensitive CMOS cameras with Full HD resolution and the establishment of the Southern Spectroscopic Observatory of the Valašské Meziříčí Observatory (SSOVMO) in Chile in 2025, detailed images and spectra of meteors are being produced with unprecedented precision. New stations at the La Silla and El Sauce observatories enable monitoring of meteor activity in both hemispheres and linking data on the trajectories and spectra of meteors and meteorites. The project, coordinated from the Valašské Meziříčí Observatory, is the result of international collaboration with European experts and institutions.
